At Merluza in Birmingham, a restyle is a fresh map for your hair. We start with a clear conversation about face shape, features, texture and how you live. Then we cleanse, read the hair’s movement and create a precise cut that flatters from every angle and grows out cleanly.

Every guest is welcome. Straight, wavy, curly or coily, short or long, minimalist or high-glam. We translate your references into technique so the look photographs beautifully and wears comfortably day to day.

Who It’s For

Guests ready to change length, shape or fringe. Anyone who feels their current cut is heavy, flat, frizzy or hard to style. Ideal if you want a look that frames your features, respects natural texture and fits your morning. Inclusive of all genders and hair types. If hair is highly compromised, we may recommend a treatment first to protect integrity.

Duration & Appointment Timing

Your appointment is 75 minutes. Typical flow: 10 minutes consultation, 5 minutes cleanse and prep, 40 minutes cutting, 20 minutes blow-dry and finish. Arrive a few minutes early to review goals and photos. Very long, very dense or extra curly hair may require an extended slot; flag this at booking so we can allocate the right time.

Aftercare & Maintenance

Use heat protection and the brush type we prescribe for your finish. Air-dry or rough-dry to 80 percent, then polish in sections for lasting shape. Wash cadence and product choices are tailored to your scalp and texture, with ethical options available. Rebook every 6 to 10 weeks depending on length, growth and fringe. Fringe refreshes can be scheduled between visits if needed.

What is the difference between a restyle and a trim?

A trim maintains your current shape with minimal change. A restyle re-maps length, layers, fringe and weight to better suit your features, texture and routine. We plan the new silhouette, then execute with sectioning, elevation and a finish strategy so it grows out cleanly.

Will this service work for curly or coily hair?

Yes. We assess curl pattern, density, porosity and shrinkage, then choose wet or dry cutting methods that respect your pattern. Diffusing or stretch finishing is tailored to your goals. If the hair is fragile, we may suggest a treatment to support definition and strength.

Do I need a patch test for this service?

No. Patch tests are required for colour, bleach and lash or brow tints. For a Shampoo, Restyle & Finish there is no chemical colour exposure, so no patch test is needed. If you add colour to the booking, we will arrange a test at least 48 hours in advance.

What should I bring to the appointment?

Bring photos of shapes you like and how you wear your hair on day two. Arrive with your natural texture if possible so we can read pattern and volume. Tell us about any previous chemical services, heat habits and products you use so we can tailor the plan and finish.

How often should I maintain a restyle?

Most guests rebook every 6 to 10 weeks. Short shapes and precise fringes suit the 4 to 6 week range. Longer layered cuts can stretch further if home care is consistent. We will set a personal cadence and can schedule fringe refreshes between visits if needed.
